I am just now hearing about this. I heard about this from Shana's mom. I met Shana through our mutual occupational therapy field but did not realize that Shana was Stacey's sister. I was good friends with Stacey back at Broward College. I wish I got the opportunity to know Shana better. I hope to get to know the family better at this point. My last conversation with Shana was on Feb 4th. We were talking about working together because I was expanding my practice and was looking for another occupational therapist to work with. I responded a week later but never heard back. The world will miss her. Thank you for your contributions to healthcare. May she rest in peace. 🙏🏽🙏🏽

Life....and just like that, I found out yesterday,  my beautiful friend Shana passed away in February of this year, 2025.💔 My chatterbox twin! (That's what we called each other) We have not spoken for a while, but we have been there for each other on graduations, first communions, new jobs, etc...and knew that we were always going to reconnect in the future. Maybe on a special day or occasion, no matter where because that's who Shana was not just with me but with all her special friends, as I discovered while reading her eulogy. Sometimes in life we take for granted thinkng one of this days I will give that dear friend a call and we will meet up for coffee or sangrias to catch up..I could hear her laughing and giggling right now!! 😂😢 oh my dear Shana, as I spoke with your sister and mom yesterday and heard the news, I could feel their pain and also the joy to have found me and brought you back with our memories. I had no words. It was and is so sureal. I cried so hard all afternoon in my backyard and agan at the Adoration Chapel as I  dedicated my hour and lighted a candle in your memory, I could not stop crying...and as I write these words, tears are rolling down. I truly feel blessed to have known you, I thank God for placing you in my path. 🙏❤️ I will regret not having more of all the good times, laughs, giggles, dancing, deep conversations about life and God, hugs we could have had together....But most important of all, I Thank you for making sure I find out...I know it was YOU who made this happened...I will forever wear the beautiful rosary necklace you gave me just like yours and keep it close to me specially when I wear my yellow dresses! 😁 I promise I will always be overdressed instead of under dressed, and I will exercise daily, keeping your memory alive.. I love you, CHICA!!! As you used to say 😭💔

They say that someone is never truly gone until you stop remembering them.
I think there is truth to this: when you left this Earth on 2/11/2025, a great part of me went missing, but I think you left some of yourself behind for me to find; when you left this Earth, I closed my eyes and for a moment it felt as if you were here with me again.  I went through your pictures and I studied your face harder than I ever have and for a moment, the pictures brought you back to life once more. I have found so many reasons to talk about you and I tell stories about you and for a moment I am living through those memories.
Every day I find as many reasons as I can to remember you and I try to find as many reasons as I can to NOT let the rest of you leave this earth, and everyday it brings me peace to know that as long as I remember you , a part of you will always be here with me.

Today we would have been celebrating  your 44th birthday but you’re not here with us - you’re in heaven,.
My heart is broken at the bittersweet ache of your absence. Though you're not physically here, your spirit shines brightly in the memories I will always cherish.
Today I want to express how much you mean to me, not just as my sister, but as my  friend, and the most beautiful soul I've ever known. I remember all the laughter, the secrets whispered, and the unwavering support you always offered, even when I didn't realize I needed it. Your kindness and compassion touched so many lives, and I'm eternally grateful for the time we had together.
I know you're in a place of peace and joy, but I still find myself longing for your presence, your voice, laughter and your infectious smile.  I know you're watching over us, and I find comfort in that, knowing that our bond transcends the boundaries of this world.
Today, I'll raise a glass to you, my beloved sister, and celebrate the incredible woman you were and the love that continues to bind us.

Shana was authentic and as we say in Jamaica good fren better than pocket money. I can’t remember which island she was visiting, but while at the beach, she wanted to create an “IG” type ocean picture. Well as she was performing her best IG model poses the very expensive designer sunglasses drop off  har head and di ocean wave carry the glasses guh give Shamu whale. When she called me to relay the distress and anxiety of the entire experience in no time we were having a belly laugh about the entire situation. 
 
Shana was committed to maintaining relationships. She traveled all the way to Dallas, Texas to attend my law school graduation. We celebrated each other’s successes, with optimism of what each achievement will lead us to. Shana’s legacy is in human capital. Her legacy lies in the lives she touched, the indomitable marks she made in our lives, the impact and the lives she showed up for. 
 
I am grateful to God to have experienced a significant part of my life with Shana. May we all reflect on living our lives aligned with the fruits of the Spirit in our dealings and interactions with others. I pray that we deal with others on our path with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 [a]gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

My Dear Friend, Shana​

Shana was an emotional giver, connecting with family, friends and her patients on deep personal levels. I am unable to count the amount of conversations she and I had about several patients who were trying to marry her off to their sons, grandsons or nephews. This was not surprising to those who knew her because her life‘s purpose was tied to helping people. For this reason every career move she made post-school was into a role of directly helping others. She worked from Jenny Craig to South beach diet doctors to ultimately an occupational therapist. Always operating in a capacity of counseling people to improve their lives.  Shana had a gift of making her friends and patients feel important. Shana chose occupational therapy as a profession. This afforded her a plethora of opportunities to make a tangible difference in people’s lives. She worked very long and demanding but meaningful hours. She was not the 9 to 5 then I am out type of employee. She was vested in the growth and improvement of her patients. Shana gave what I call intentional and empathetic care to her patients. Often spending time with her patients to understand their lives and gleam motivation for them to successfully execute their therapy. In a nutshell, she was my retirement caretaker plan. Yes I know we are the same age, but she would be my caretaker. She would laugh and say T I can’t manage you. 
 
Shana had a quiet strength she thrived as a motivator during difficult times I remember after my last child was born I suffered life or death health challenges. Shana never made me forget where I was coming from. She said T you are strong, the levels you achieved in track and field, this is nothing for you to tackle. I pushed through two years of what seemed like never ending therapies. Through it all she never wavered, always encouraging, she said to me T you will be better and ready for hot girl summer.

My dear Shana and I had a friendship that lasted for over 30+ years. We became friends during our early years at Wolmers High School for girls. I am emotionally distraught, but extremely honored that the Laird family appointed me the opportunity to articulate my thoughts about my dear friend Shana. 
 
Shana was the unofficial official food sample distributor to her friends at Wolmers high school for girls. Let me explain: one of Shana‘s core subjects at school was food and nutrition. As her friends we knew every time she had a food and nutrition practical due at school. For the non-Jamaicans in the congregation this meant that she would be preparing a meal that would be graded by her teacher. After the grade was issued she would come outside to share her practical with her ever-present, ever so patient hungry belly friends. Those were the days of simple pleasures and Shana was our chief nutritionist and full belly CEO. 
 
Shana was never afraid to go against the mold. Academically most of us in our friend group proceeded to 6th form after sitting the CXC exams. Shana on the other hand, proceeded to attend the University of Technology (UTECH). She said to me that T six form cannot help me with what I want to do. I just want to focus on what I need to do. Shana always possessed an inner confidence and surety about herself even if she was afraid of the uncharted path. She was not going to let the fear take her off course.

I had the absolute gift and pleasure of having Shana as one of my clients.  My team and I found out that she had passed away when one of my team members called to check on her after a missed appointment.  We were devastated to hear the news that she had passed… I have thought about Shana every day since then.  One of my team members found this page, and I was so thankful to read all of the beautiful memories shared of her.  I did not spend a tremendous amount of time with Shana, but I know she was such a beautiful person inside and out.

As an OT, Shana touched so many people.  I read a story someone else posted about a patient of Shana’s who was able to re-learn to write with Shana’s help.  Shana also shared this story with me and was so proud of the countless people she had helped.   She was a deeply talented and dedicated OT.   She also loved to show me all her fun photos of her travels and her beautiful friends.

I wanted to write something to commemorate her and share with her family and friends that even in our infrequent encounters, she truly touched my heart and soul.  She was so silly and always had me laughing - our appointments often ran over just because we would chat for too long.  Now I know it will never be long enough…  But I am so thankful I had the privilege and honor to be a small part of her life.  Although I will continue to miss her, I also know my team and I will never forget her.  My deepest condolences to her friends and family during this time.

She was an avid world traveler, saw so many countries,  however was so humble and grateful for all off her blessings. Shana never took anything for granted.  She lived life to its fullest. 

Shana was professional , dedicated. and a hard worker. She loved her geriatric patients and the feelings were mutual. They provided so much wisdom like traveling and to enjoy your life. Shana literally implemented those advice. 

As we celebrate Shana’s life, we have to reflect and say she accomplished so many blessings at the tender age of 43 . Shana unfortunately passed away doing one of the things she loved doing which was exercising. Shana, you will be truly missed and are loved by everybody in this room.  Shana always say, “Now tell me now”.  Thank you Shana for being such an inspiration in my life. I will miss you tremendously, hearing your voice, jokes, and laughter . May you rest in peace my dear friend until we meet again. I love you Shana. There is a special place in heaven for you.  (Part 2).

My name is Trudy, a friend of Shana. 

My deepest condolences and prayers to Shana’s family, her parents Mr. and Mrs. Laird, and her siblings Loen, Stacey, and Wayne, her nephews Nathaniel, and Aiden and extended family on your tragic lost. Shana will forever be your guardian angel watching and protecting you all. Shana loved her family immensely and they meant the world to her. 

I received the most devastating news  on February 11 from our friend Margaret and I didn’t believe it.  It was so surreal.  I actually called her number and Loen answered and confirmed Shana’s passing. When Loen asked me to do a tribute to Shana,  I was first so sad, shocked, and honored all at the same time.  

My dear beloved Shana , you were a beacon of life , a magnificent aura, had the most infectious smile and laugh, was fearless, so extremely generous,  intelligent, a fashionista, witty, and truly a blessed person. Shana always put God first in every step of her life. 

I met Shana when I moved to Florida from New Jersey in 2005 to start our Occupational Therapy Masters program at Nova Southeastern University. We bounded right away for many reasons, we were both born in Jamaica, both true Aries, and both love to laugh.  My husband was still working in NJ during our program and Shana was so gracious and took me under her wings. She introduced me to so many things in South Florida like many restaurants , stores in Dolphin Mall,  and wearing chandelier earrings which I still wear up to this day. I even have one on now to honor you my dear Shana. 

As many of you are aware, Shana always kept in contact with many of our classmates including Margaret, Maria, Sherry, Asher, Candance, Danielle, Sarah, and countless others, colleagues, and friends. She never forgot a birthday.  Shana love to exercise and kept her body in shape. Nevertheless , Shana enjoyed eating  and was always ready to go out to a restaurant to share quality time and laughter.  (Part 1)

Eulogy (Part 4)

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Shana was a loving daughter, a devoted sister, a caring cousin, a dedicated aunt, and a cherished friend. From the bright, smart, bubbly, and outspoken little girl she once was, she grew into an extraordinary woman who made everyone feel seen and valued. Her laughter was infectious, and her kindness knew no bounds. Shana had a unique ability to light up a room, bringing comfort and joy to all fortunate enough to know her.
As we reflect on Shana's life, let us remember her not just for her professional success, but for the love she shared, the lives she touched, and the indelible mark she left on our hearts. She showed us to pursue our dreams fearlessly, to embrace challenges with courage, and to cherish the relationships that enrich our lives.
Though she may no longer be with us in body, her spirit will live on in the memories we hold dear. Let us carry forward her legacy of kindness, strength, and determination. And as we grieve, we are compelled to celebrate the life and spirit of this exceptional young woman. We are flooded with enormous gratitude for the time and space we were able to share with her. We will remember all that Shana showed us about loving each other and ourselves and cherish the way she made her immediate circle more loving, more balanced, and more manageable.
She was one of God’s working angels. Through her example, we are reminded of the power of faith and take comfort in God’s ever-present grace and mercy. As we say our final goodbyes, let us celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the profound impact she had on us.

Eulogy (Part3)

Shana told her Dad that she did not want to have any regrets in her life and so she was going to live life to the fullest and travel the world. This she did a few times each year, with her most recent trip being this past January 2025 to Milan, Italy.
Shana’s passion for traveling allowed her to embrace the varied experiences and cultural exposure that came with exploring the world. She cherished the many people she met from different walks of life, the lessons she learned, and the lives she impacted through her various work experiences. Her compassion and empathy were evident in everything she did, and she firmly believed in the power of community and collaboration. Shana understood the importance of giving back.
Her Mom remembers the time when Shana shared with her about one of her patients who was a teacher and had lost the use of her hands. During one of her therapy sessions with her, Shana asked her patient what she would most like to do. She responded that she would like to write a letter to her son. Shana worked tirelessly with her for a long time, to help her regain some use of her hands. Eventually, she helped her get to the point where she could pen a letter to her son. Shana was so very proud of her patients progress, and she felt fulfilled knowing she helped. 
Shana was kind and loving, generous to a fault, and fiercely protective of those she loved, especially her little brother Wayne. Wayne’s favorite memory of his big sister was when he accompanied her on one of her trips to Spain last year, and they spent many evenings just walking, enjoying the sights, and talking. He cherished the time he spent with his big sister and appreciated her ability to just listen—no judgments; she just listened and provided guidance.

Eulogy (Part 2)

Shana was not just a successful professional as an Occupational Therapist; she was a trailblazer in her field. Her dedication, intelligence, and relentless pursuit of excellence set her apart. Shana was driven by a profound desire to help others, dedicating her time and resources to making a difference in the lives of those around her. She inspired everyone with her work ethic and her ability to turn challenges into opportunities. When she set her mind to something, she pursued it with fervor. Whether collaborating with her team, mentoring younger professionals, or advocating for her industry, Shana did so with grace and determination. She left every space she entered better than when she found it, always looking for and demanding the best from the people in her life. Her contributions will be felt for years to come.
 
During the past eight years of her career, Shana chose to branch out into the area of Home Healthcare, where she visited her patients and helped them heal in the comfort of their own homes. She enjoyed talking to and helping her patients heal. She would ask her elderly patients if they had any regrets in life, to which they mostly responded, “We wished we had traveled the world when we were younger, as opposed to waiting for the right time, which we never got the opportunity to.” Among Shana’s work reports, her family found a few personal motivational notes she jotted down to herself. One note said the following:
 
“From my Dad and my Patients, I learned a lot about this thing called ‘Life.’ From my patients, I learn from their mistakes, just listening to their life stories. I became a student to their stories, a student of life. I go there to help my patients, but they also help me in life. Learning from their failures and mistakes helps me to move my life forward in a different direction. I have decided that I will enjoy my life every chance I get. My patients’ experiences have taught me so. Life is unpredictable!”

Ladies and gentlemen, family and friends,
 
We gather here today to celebrate the life of an extraordinary young woman, Shana Yolanda Laird. Shana was born to Beulah and Allan Laird on March 22, 1981, in St. Andrew, Jamaica, West Indies. Shana lived a robust life full of faith, love, family, and friendships, but on February 11, 2025, her earthly journey tragically came to an end. While our hearts are heavy with grief, we come together today to honor a life filled with remarkable achievements, boundless passion, and an unwavering spirit.
 
Shana is survived by her parents, Allan and Beulah; sisters, Loen and Stacey; brother, Wayne; nephews, Nathaniel and Aiden; cousins; aunts; extended family members; and a host of cherished lifelong friends. Shana’s parents remember her as a very active child who blossomed into a remarkable young woman who enjoyed life to the fullest with no regrets. She was easy going, very out spoken, fair and she advocated for anyone who could not defend themselves. Shana also loved fashion. Dressing up and looking good was a favorite pastime that she nurtured and maintained throughout every phase of her life. While growing up in Jamaica, Shana and her sisters used to dress up just so they could take pictures every Saturday evening. They had nowhere to go; they just wanted to take pictures all dressed up!
 
Shana spent the first 19 years of her life in Jamaica, where she attended St. Hugh’s Preparatory School, serving as Head Girl, and later attended Wolmer's High School for Girls. She attended U Tech in Jamaica where she started her training in Nutrition before her parents migrated the family to the United States in the year 2000. Shana attended Florida International University, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics and Clinical Nutrition. She later completed her education at Nova Southeastern University, where she earned her Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy.

To the family of Shana Laird, my deepest condolences to you. I can't imagine the pain you are feeling for the loss of such a beautiful,  daughter, sister and  auntie. Shana was such a bright light and I know that her memories will continue to shine bright in your hearts. May God continue to comfort you all during this difficult time.

Shana, You are gone too soon and will be missed. Through your travels, we can feel your energy. I hope your many smiles will help your family to heal through the memories—sleep in peace, sweet Angel of God.

First I would like to express my deepest condolences to family . 
Never in my life I thought I would be writing this message  . I knew Shana for 20 years . We met at work and even though we were changing work settings we reminded  friends all these years . At times we had the same patients so we talked quite often . We were not just work friends , we were friends to talk about our trips , guys , clothes and all kind of little things . Shana would always asked me about my daughter since she knew her since she was little kid .
Shana was my dear bubbly friend always positive always nice . She would call me out of the blue saying „ Hi Alicja you crossed my mind so I am calling to see how are you doing …”
We were supposed to talk about her latest Italy trip but we were playing phone tag …
Shana called me that Monday night from that walk on which that tragic accident occurred and left a message and at the end she said           „ we will catch up eventually hon … bye „
 RIP my girlfriend . I will be for sure missing you in my life !

My deepest condolences to the Laird family and all who were fortunate to know Shana. She was my OT classmate, colleague, and dear friend. 

Twenty years ago, I met Shana in our graduate OT program, and we worked on a few presentations together. In school, I was always amazed by how so many people in the other health science programs knew Shana. She would laugh and say to me, "Oh, you know me, I like to talk, and I'll talk to anyone". Shana's dedication to her academic studies and her work as a clinician was motivating. She was an excellent student and therapist, and her commitment to caring for patients was heartwarming.

 I will miss her genuine kindness and our deep and lively conversations about life and God. Talks with Shana infused my day with laughter and energy, and made me grateful for her friendship. She was caring and inspirational as she was beautiful. She was like a family member to me. A few days before her passing Shana called to check in with me. My friendship with Shana was a gift that I will continue to cherish in my heart. I miss her dearly.

I am no stranger to grief. Over the course of time, I have lost both of my parents, a brother, a beloved pet, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and godparents, but I have not lost a good friend till now.  Shana was like a sister I never had. We called each other almost everyday doing home care. If we did not get a chance to talk, she would call at night while she’s walking around her neighborhood. Most of the time I would be making dinner.
       It’s hard to go through the day now without hearing from her.  Little quirks which I miss, and though I don’t see her face, I would know what kind of day she’s having.  When she starts the conversation with “Do you have 2 minutes?”…I tell myself, somebody pissed her off.  “I have a joke.” Somebody flirted with her.  And my favorite, “Okay,  don’t repeat.” It means she has a juicy gossip to tell me.
        I miss her so much. I hope she knows how much I love her and value our friendship. Kisses till we meet again, my beautiful friend.

Shana you said you love this pic! You said  that this was one of your favourites, silly and candid. This just shows your amazing attitude to life. You will be missed so much precious soul. P

I had the incredible pleasure of meeting Shana in Barcelona, and her warmth, kindness, and adventurous spirit are something I will never forget. Her zest for life, genuine care for others, and contagious laughter will be deeply missed. It feels far too soon for her to go, but when God has a plan, He calls those who are ready for Him and His love. Until we meet again my dear friend. I met Shana at one of our first jobs out of school and we clicked right away. We had so much in common.. born one day apart, we were both single ladies who grew up in the islands,  attended FIU, studied OT... we were ready to travel  and conquer the world!  Shana was that friend I knew I could turn to when my spirit needed uplifting. Her vibrant personality, positive energy, and kind heart were inspirational. I’m so grateful for the time I had with her. Shana my friend, I love and miss you 💛

What a pleasure it was to spend our days together as friends who grew such a beautiful friendship. During our times together, we got to experience so many fun times & lots of laughter. In that time, I was able to meet a genuine, loving, positive, caring for others human being. In my heart you will continue to live, even though you were taken from us to soon. I will forever remember all the good things you taught me.

To my beautiful sister Shana ,

On February 11, 2025, heaven received an angel. Words cannot express how painful and hard it has been losing you. 
I remember like it was yesterday, at 1:02 a.m receiving the call about your accident and I needed to get to the hospital immediately- crying and praying with all my heart that you would be ok, but sadly, God had another plan.
Shana, there is not a day that goes by that I don’t think of you. They say that time heals all wounds, but this wound is far too deep.  Despite  the immense loss and pain I feel, I have come to learn that no matter what we go through, we must continue to move forward, and keep the faith. You of all people have taught me that we must grow from each experience, even the bad ones. I am so grateful to God for everyday that I am alive and for all the blessings He has bestowed upon me. But most important, I am utterly grateful that I had the gift of an amazing sister, who although left this world far too soon, was so real, kind, honest to a fault, funny, genuine, and truly knew how to live life to its fullest.
Today Shana,  as I continue to honor your memory, I want you to know that you were not just a sister to me, but a friend, and treasured aunt to my precious SONshine Nathaniel. 
In honor of you, I will remember you during the good times, and spread that light to others that you gave to so many.
I pray that of all the good you did here during your short time in this world, and the lessons that were imparted on me and so many others will help your soul to rise higher and higher. The night you went to heaven all I did was cry and prayed, but I have never once lost my faith in God, nor did I ever question his decision.

 I miss you every single day, and I wish you were still here. I love you with all of my heart and I will see you again someday.
