Shawn Chowdhury

It is with great sadness that the family of Shamsuzzaman "Shawn" Chowdhury announces his recent and unexpected passing. Mr. Chowdhury came to the United States from Bangladesh in 1962 to further his higher education. He attended Colorado State University (CSU) where he received his Master's Degree in Civil Engineering. Upon graduation, he worked faithfully and fruitfully for the Colorado Department of Transportation for over 34 years. During that time, he designed and oversaw the construction of many major highway bridges in Colorado. Two notable award winning bridges are the Pedestrian Overpass in Boulder, CO and the Rabbit Valley Interchange, bridge design across I-70 near the Utah state line. Both bridges are still in use by the public today. Mr. Chowdhury retired from the Colorado Department of Transportation with distinction in 2000.

In 2002, Shawn moved to sunny Fort Myers, Florida where he could more easily experience his loves of boating, fishing, gardening and photography as well as enjoy a more temperate climate and forgiving altitude. Additionally, he became a skilled bridge and pool player and enjoyed playing weekly games with many friends. Even though he was officially retired, he continued his education by first taking classes from HR Block and then being hired on to help others put their tax returns together.

Mr. Chowdhury passed away on Christmas day, December 25th 2016, at the age of 75. He leaves behind and will forever be lovingly remembered by his wife, Shirin, two daughters, Sandra and Andrea plus five grandchildren, Adrian, Nicholas, Sehra, Brayden and Isabella, as well as his extended family and dear friends.
