
Stanley John Scheerer, 87, of Pompano Beach passed away suddenly and peacefully Saturday, December 28, 2013 surrounded by his family. Family and friends will remember Stanley's strong determination and wonderful sense of humor. He was loved by everyone who knew him and will be missed dearly.
He was born in Shakespeare, Ontario, Canada on May 7, 1926 to Elmer and Almina Scheerer. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy in WWII. He came to south Florida in 1960 and retired from Ft. Lauderdale Lincoln Mercury with over 25 years of faithful service. He enjoyed watching old TV sitcoms and was an avid Dolphins, FSU and Marlins fan. He loved to read and enjoyed family visits. He amazed everyone with his incredible perseverance and strength of mind to remain independent after a debilitating stroke 15 years ago.
He was the beloved husband of his late wife, Bernice D. Scheerer for 51 years. He was loved and adored by his daughters: Laraine Walker of Tamarac, Florida, and Sandy LaLonde (Richard) of Pompano Beach, Florida, grandchildren: Jeffrey Walker (Marie), Lori Thigpen (Jerry), Wendy King (Tom), and Amy Walker, great-grandchildren: Marissa, Bryce, Ireland, Payton, Jordon, Madison, Ashton, Montana, McKenzie, and Zachary. He is survived by sister-in-law Elmina Scheerer and many nieces and nephews. He was one of five children in the Scheerer family and is the last of his brothers and sisters to join their parents in heaven. Predeceased by his late brothers: Harry and wife Alice Scheerer, and George Scheerer and his late sisters: Verna and husband Russ Bell, and Hazel and husband Jim Feick.
A private memorial service for the family will be celebrated in his memory. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church at 1750 Oakland Park Blvd., Oakland Park, Florida 33334.
