Steve was a wonderful son, brother and friend. Words fail to express the sadness and loss that we feel. Steve was a poet, a storyteller, a gentle soul with a heart of gold, loved by friends and family. He was intelligent, well spoken, and full of wit. He read books and wrote poems. He was a gaming master. He loved to cook and to share food and ideas.
His last years were filled with pain and difficulty. His body spent but his desire to keep fighting, his hope to overcome the disease never wavered.
We fought alongside him, the days filled with hope and prayer.
His loss has filled us with sorrow and sadness. We wish that we had known better: his ideals, his hopes, his dreams. We always think there will more time, but there was never enough time spent, never enough conversation, never enough.
A treasured friend has offered these thoughts: “Many of Steven’s best friendships were built on what the author Rafael Sabatini called a “gift of laughter and a sense that the world was mad”. He was not just a creative soul in his own right with crafts and poetry and the telling of stories, but a wonderfully prolific collaborator on things creative, always willing to sit and help others wrestle with their own best creative angels. He has thereby become one.”
Cherished memories of happier times will linger. Holiday meals spent with family all gathered around the table laughing, talking and enjoying together. Gone too soon, my son. We love you.
Due to the situation with Covid 19, Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
