Thelma Winifred Morrison (nee McDonald) affectionately called Miss Thel and Aunt Thel by family and close friends passed away peacefully at her Miramar Florida home on Sunday, December 7, 2025. She was a spritely 97-year-old, born on April 5, 1928 in Savanna-La-Mar, Westmoreland, Jamaica. She was the fourth of thirteen children born to parents Charles and Harriet McDonald.
Thelma attended Mannings High School in Savanna-La-Mar, and dreamt of becoming a registered nurse. However, God had another plan for her life. Shortly after graduating high school, she met a friend of her brother. She said, “one look at him and mi heart jump” and she knew she was in love.
Within a few months, in May 1948 she married the love of her life, Louis Wesley Morrison (now deceased). They were blessed with six children: Marjorie “Miss Babs”, Evon “Mickey”, Byron “Tony”,
Richard “Jimmi”, Lois “Pat”, and David “Dave”, and raised their family in Kingston, Jamaica. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother for not only her own children, but she loved and cared for
children of her friends creating a large network of family-friends that have lasted for generations.
In 1981 she migrated to the United States and planted roots in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area. She always loved to help and take care of people so it was a natural decision for her to train as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant. Finally, she was able to realize her dream to become a nurse. She took care of elderly patients for many years and later started a child care business in her home.
She loved the Lord, and became a member of Cosmopolitan Baptist Church in 1996. She often said that joining this church was one of the best decisions she ever made. She developed a deeper relationship with her Lord and Savior. Her faith in the Lord was steadfast and unshakeable.
She is survived by 5 of her 6 children and their spouses: Marjorie, Evon & Maxine, Richard, Lois & Franklyn and David. 16 grandchildren: Sean, Michael, Althea, Paulette, Paul, Simone, Yanique, Nikolai, Brian B, Miguel, Triana, Matthew, Najla, Imari, Brian S, and Amir. 9 great-grandchildren: Khalid, Bashir, Arrion, Olivia, Cameron, Jordan, Nico, Dominique and Aaliyah. 4 surviving siblings:
Lesmond (Canada), Joyce (New York), Dorrel (England) and Yvonne (Canada) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She leaves a lasting loving impact on those she left behind. She will
be loved, missed and remembered always.
