

Mrs. Alma Moss Self age 92 of Birmingham, AL, went home to be with the Lord on October 15, 2010. She was born to Elbert S. and Amanda F. Moss on April 21, 1918 in Chattanooga, TN. Mrs. Self was a graduate of Central High School and Wiley Business College.
She moved to Birmingham after becoming the wife of Raymond Weaver Self in July 1938.After moving to Homewood in 1954 Mrs. Self became a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Fellowship Class, United Methodist Women ,X. Y.Z. Club, and Trinity Senior Singers. A former member of the Vestavia Country Club, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and past Worthy Matron of Ocobock Chapter Number 232.Mrs. Self was employed with Alabama By Products Corp., Western Grain Company (Jim Dandy), and retired from Consolidated Pipe and Supply Company.
In addition to her Parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Weaver Self, of Hoover, AL, her daughter Mary Elizabeth Self Nelson, of Stone Mountain, GA, Brother and sister- in- law Oddie and Lucille Moss of Fredericksburg, VA, Brothers James B. Moss of Red Bank, TN, Barrow K.(Jack ) Moss of Signal Mountain ,TN, Aunt Tennie Moss Freeman of Chattanooga, TN, sister- in-law, Marion Moss of Signal Mountain, TN, Margurite Moss of Red Bank, TN, Katie Self of Colorado Springs, CO.
She is survived by a sister, Zelma Moss Pack (Bill) of Chattanooga, TN, son- in -law Bruce Nelson of Stone Mountain, GA, granddaughter, Lara Nelson both of Conyers, GA, grandson Jeffrey Bruce Nelson (Susan),great granddaughter Kaitlyn nelson, and great grandson Ryan Nelson all of Dacula, GA. Sister- in- law, Marion Moss of Signal Mountain, TN, Margurite Moss of Red Bank, TN, and Katie Self of Colorado Springs, CO, as well as several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
There will be a chapel service for Mrs. Self on Tuesday October 19, 2010 at 11;00 Am at Ridout’s Valley Chapel , her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
The family suggest that donations be made to the radio ministry at Trinity United Methodist Church,1400 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, AL 35209.
