

Ann Acker Kessler passed away November 9 , 2016 at age 89. Ann was born on June 13, 1927, in Birmingham, where she lived her whole life. She is preceded in death by her parents, Steadham and Grace Acker, her husband, William Henry Kessler, and her sister, Mildred Luck. She is survived by her two daughters, Steadham K. McGowin (Mints) of Greenville, Alabama and Carleton K. Ambrose of Birmingham; two grandchildren, William Kessler McGowin and Carleton Bassett McGowin Young (Brooks); and numerous nieces and nephews.
She attended the University of Alabama, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. Upon graduation, she taught school at Powell Elementary and later became active in the arts and community where she preferred working behind the scenes to chairmanships. She shared her talents with the Festival of Arts, the Birmingham Museum of Art, and Gateway Home. She was a founding member of the Ballet Guild which started the Ball of Roses. Among her pleasures were flower arranging, golf, tennis and a weekly bridge game. She was a member of the Junior League of Birmingham and Cathedral Church of the Advent.
The family appreciates the love and care given by Mina Rutledge, Vivian Moore, Annette Houser, Wendy Goodwin, Sandra Harris, Susan Childs, Roxie Luck, and De De Clark. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered to Cathedral Church of the Advent (Outreach or Pastoral Care discretionary funds), 2017 Sixth Avenue North, B’ham, AL 35203 or the charity of your choice. The memorial service will be Thursday, November 10th at 3:00 p.m. at Cathedral Church of the Advent, with visitation following at the church.
