
68, of Mountain Brook, passed away on August 5, 2011 after a long illness. She is survived by her husband, Henry; her children, John McPherson (Anne) of Dallas, TX, Bill McPherson, Laura McPherson Fleenor (David) of Birmingham, AL, and Anne McPherson Pringle (Charlie) of Fernandina Beach, FL; and her six grandchildren, Clay, Will John and Todd McPherson; and Betsy and William Pringle.
Anne grew up in Hollywood, Florida and attended Duke University, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and earned membership in the Phi Beta Kappa society. After college, she taught high school English in Southern California. She then worked as a systems engineer for IBM in Atlanta. She and Henry met in Atlanta and were married for the past 44 years. In 1971, they moved to Birmingham.
Anne boasted a strong competitive spirit and loved playing contract bridge. She travelled frequently to tournaments, enjoyed many friendships, and became a Life-master level player.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 12th at 11:00 a.m. at Shades Valley Presbyterian Church, where Anne was a long-time member. A reception will follow the service in the church's Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Birmingham Bridge Club or Shades Valley Presbyterian Church.
