Artis Bert Roper, age 67, of Birmingham, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2022. Art was born on January 17, 1955 in Gadsden, Alabama to Frank and Della Roper. He graduated from Southside High School in 1973. Art married Vicki on August 23, 1974. He was a member of the Church of Brookhills. During his career, Art worked at Steiner Bressler; created and founded Magic City Animation; worked with Alabama Power–notably creating Louie the Lightning Bug; Shadrack’s Light Show; and served 25 years at Blue Cross Blue Shield. He was a two time recipient of the BCBS Cornerstone Award chosen by his peers as a person who most personified the company’s corporate values. He earned a reputation at Blue Cross as the person who could take any idea and bring it to life. He also won numerous ADDY awards.
Art was the epitome of a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, (known affectionately as “Pop”), colleague, and friend. He was liked and respected by everyone who knew him. Art was known for his dedication to the things he loved most; family, work and a good project. If Art put his mind to something, he was all-in, and promised to deliver better than expected. “If a project is worth doing, it is worth doing right.”
Art was preceded in death by his parents Frank Paul Roper and Della Mae (Clark) Roper. He is survived by his wife Vicki Mullins Roper, daughter Ashley Roper McCullars and husband, Ben McCullars; son Adam Paul Roper, and wife, Janie Nash Roper; granddaughter Riley McCullars; grandsons Ren McCullars, Nash Roper, and Ty Roper; and a 5th grandson due in January and his siblings Shirley, Tim, and Amenda.
