

Born on October 12, 1930, Bettye was born in Birmingham, Alabama to the late William Kingsbury Lassetter and Myrl Harman Lassetter and was a resident of Homewood for 70 years.
A graduate of Phillips High School, Bettye attended Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama and was a long time member of Les Jeunes Meres, a Mother's Study Club which was organized in 1957. Her father, W.K. Lassetter, founded Lassetter and Company in the 1930's and had several locations. In 1970, Bettye opened Lassetter's in downtown Homewood and managed the location for 20 years.
Bettye was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Allen DeVan. She is survived by her daughter, Bettye DeVan Brown (Rex); her son, William A. DeVan; her grandson, Andrew Lassetter Brown (Sarah); and by her two great grandsons, Finn Lassetter Brown and Skyler Phillips Brown.
Our Mother was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother "MawMaw" and true friend. She had a strong faith in God and was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church in Vestavia Hills, Alabama.
Friends are cordially invited to the visitation on Monday, the 8th of December, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Ridout's Valley Chapel, located at 1800 Oxmoor Road in Homewood. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Elmwood Cemetery immediately following the service.
