Brenda Calhoun peacefully passed away early in the morning on September 06, 2025, following a very short illness. Brenda was born on November 04,1941 to Mildred and Clyde Maxwell in Atlanta, GA. Around the age of seven, Brenda’s family relocated to Alabama living in different areas of Birmingham before finally settling in Homewood. She was the middle child of seven siblings, attended Shades Valley High School and modeled for local retailers as a young woman.
Brenda met her future husband, Jimmy Calhoun while working at Calhoun’s Shoes in Homewood for Jimmy’s Father, Waldo Calhoun. After Jimmy's return from service with the United States Air National Guard they married in 1961 and started a family. Brenda continued working in the business until 2001, assisting with the day-to-day operations of the multiple shoe stores.
When Brenda was not working, she had many hobbies which included drawing, painting, pottery, and crocheting. She and Jimmy traveled the globe. She was a loving and giving Mother and Sister who was admired by all for her beauty, grace, smile, and laughter with kindness being her greatest attribute.
She is preceded in death by the love of her life, Jimmy Calhoun. She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Finney (Greg) and grandchildren, Conner and Layton; her son, Wesley Calhoun (Meredith); and her sister, Dianne Stallings (Jere).
The family would like to thank all the many local health care providers for all the love and attention they provided. A sincere thank you to Ruby Evans who will always be “a sister from another mother” to Brenda.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 12th, at Ridout’s Valley Chapel (1800 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, AL 35209). Visitation will be held at 10:00 am and the service at 11:00 am.
