Catherine "Cay" Crow was born on October 12, 1923 in Lancaster, New Hampshire. She passed away on June 21, 2014 at the age of 90. She was the second of four children and is survived by her brother Edward H.Carey. She met her late husband, Dr. Charles B. Crow, Jr. at Johns Hopkins University where they both were enrolled in pre-med. He went on to Johns Hopkins Medical School and she always said she got her MD the hard way - she married it! They married in 1943 and after time spent in the northeast and Puerto Rico, they returned to her husband's hometown - Birmingham, Alabama in 1954 - just in time for the birth of their fifth child.
Mrs. Crow is survived by her five children: Dr. Charles B. Crow, III (wife Carol), Maureen Crow, William Crow, Barbara C. Wentowski (husband: Roger Wentowski, II), and Catherine "Cassie" Crow (husband: John "Jack" O'Brien).
She was known to all as "Mama Crow" - a name her grandchildren gave to her. Her seven grandchildren - "her crowning glory":
Patricia Crow, Charles B. Crow, IV "Chuck", Amy Crow, Ellen C. Renfro (husband Nate)
Dr. Catherine Wentowski (husband Dr. Neil Ninan), Roger C. Wentowski, III (wife Hope), and William Wentowski.
And her six great-grandchildren - "the jewels in her crown": Maximillan Renfro , Abagail Wentowski
Madelyn Wentowski , Sophia Renfro, Roger Wentowski, IV and ,Eloise Ninan
She was instrumental in the formation of the Herb Society at the Botantical Gardens and was an avid gardner all of her life. As a member of the Asian Art Society she travelled throughout the world acquiring works of art for the Birmingham Museum of Art as well as for her private enjoyment. She loved bridge and played with her lifelong friends until just a month ago. Mama Crow also taught her grandchildren and their friends to play - there was never a dull moment at the game table! She was a pilot, an avid reader, a collector of fine antiques and a lover of all nature provided.
The most precious gift Mama Crow gave to her family and friends was a home where all were welcomed. A home where warmth, traditions and most of all LOVE was bountiful. She was a gracious, beautiful, smart, witty woman who will be sorely missed by all who had the great pleasure of knowing her.
