

October 11, 1917 to July 17, 2015. Born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to Olive Ramsay and Charles Howard Moses who both predeceased him, he grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. His only sibling, Olive Swenson also predeceased him. He passed away at his home in Birmingham, Alabama with his wife Marilyn Snow at his side. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 62 years, Lillian Anne McPherson Moses and his daughter, Penelope (“Penny”) Anne Moses Isbell, (husband Jay) and is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn Snow, his children Charles H. Moses III (wife Anne), and John W. Moses, (wife Laurie), his eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly. He served his country as a Captain in the Army attached at the end of World War II to Patton’s Third Army Division after first serving in North Africa with artillery units. While being licensed as an Alabama attorney, for most of his career he practiced as a Certified Public Accountant in the firm founded by his father and him, which continues as Moses, Phillips, Young, Brannon & Henninger, LLP. When he retired from the CPA firm, he embarked on his law practice until he was 84. The community was also a beneficiary of his volunteer activity including the Spastic Aid of Alabama (now known as United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Birmingham), the SOS Foundation (formed to combat polio and distribute the Salk polio vaccine) where he was a board member until a few years ago, and a lifelong member of the Optimist Club of Birmingham, to name a few. He served on the boards of many organizations or as a treasurer, including Mt. Brook Swim & Tennis Club and The Club. His 95 year church home, First Presbyterian Church of Birmingham was close to his heart where he never let anyone be a stranger and served as an elder and deacon and officer. In lieu flowers or other memorials please make a contribution to the First Presbyterian Church Foundation, or your favorite charity. There will be a graveside service at Elmwood Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 and a Memorial Service at First Presbyterian Church of Birmingham on August 7, 2015 at 3:00 p.m., with reception following at the church.
