
Charles A. Reid “Chuck”, age 72, of Birmingham, died December 8, 2013. He was born in Syracuse, NY, raised in Philadelphia, PA and Des Plaines, IL.
Upon graduation from the University of Northern Iowa in 1964, Chuck joined Carnation Company as trainee in its Advanced Management Program. After leaving Carnation Company in 1975, he bought an interest in a food brokerage firm in Birmingham. He retired in 2003 as President of Advantage Sales and Marketing, in Alabama.
Chuck was an active member of Shades Valley Lutheran Church, served on the Board of Oasis, and had a heart for the Homeless of Birmingham serving at Highlands Methodist Church Community Ministries.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, his son Todd, siblings Shirley O’Connor, Nancy Ross, Judy Iser, and Walton Reid. He is survived by his wife of 49 years Debbie, sisters: Janet Vail, Susan Swanson, brother: Gerald Reid, and a host of nieces and nephews. A friend and mentor to many, a golfer, an avid UAB Basketball and Alabama Football fan, Chuck will be deeply missed by everyone one who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Shades Valley Lutheran Church or Highlands Methodist Church Community Ministries program.
A Celebration of his life will be held at Shades Valley Lutheran Church, Friday December 13 at 11:00. The family will greet friends from 10:00 until 11:00.
