Mr. Charles Roy Vance, age 86 of Vestavia Hills, passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2012. He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Vance Kane; two granddaughters, Sarah Elizabeth Kane and Annamarie Kane; sister, Helen Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews. A graduate of Woodlawn High School and Howard College (Samford University), Mr. Vance served in the United States military and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He served as Hospital Administrator for the Crippled Children's Clinic and Spain Rehab before retiring from Lloyd Nolan Hospital. After retiring, Mr. Vance served as a substitute teacher at Vestavia Hills High School and also worked in the football athletic department at Samford University. Receiving of friends: Monday evening, October 15th, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 16th, at St. Peter's Catholic Church located in Hoover with burial immediately following at Forest Hill Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Ridout's Valley Chapel (879-3401) in Homewood. >
