

Mrs. Charlotte Enslen Rushton Chew, of Mountain Brook, Alabama, passed away peacefully at home with family on Saturday, November 15, 2014. She was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. She played the violin for the Birmingham Symphony for twenty years and was integral in establishing the Youth Orchestra.
Charlotte married Allen Rushton in 1942, and after his death, years later she married Bonnie Chew. She is preceded in death by her parents, Fredrick Eugene Enslen and Charlotte Badger, her step-mother Kate Dowling; her three sisters, Martha Owen Enslen, Laura Enslen Bebe and Archer Simms Jackson; her husband Allen Rushton, grandson David Corey, and her husband Bonnie Chew. She is survived by her daughter Charlotte Rushton McDavid and her two children Jordan McDavid (Brigette) and Charlotte Landvik (Evan); her step-son, Allen Rushton (Varina) and their children Varina Hart (Bill) and Yancey Rushton (Leigh); and her step-daughter Douglass Corey (John), and their children John Corey (Sherri), Allen Corey (Katherine) and David Corey’s widow Beth Corey; as well as fifteen great-grandchildren. The family would like to express its deepest gratitude to Brenda McCurry, Jean Whitehouse, Pam Sanford, Janice Thompson, Jackie Painter, and Diane Hunter for their many years of dedicated care.
A viewing will be held at Rideout’s Valley Chapel from 4:00-6:00pm on Tuesday, November 18, 2014. Visitation will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, November 19, 2014, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, before the service at 2:00pm. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Alabama Symphony, 3621 6th S.
