Claire Roberts Adams of Vestavia Hills, Alabama passed away on March 25th, at the age of 82 at her home. She was born on October 31, 1940 in Jenkins, Kentucky. Claire spent most of her childhood in Birmingham, Alabama where she graduated from Shades Valley High School in 1958. She then attended the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and graduated in 1962, and was a member of Mortar Board Society. She was an active member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority and involved with many different campus organizations. Claire made lifelong friends with her sorority sisters at the University of Alabama.
Upon graduation Claire spent a few years as an airline stewardess with United Airlines and was based in Chicago. Claire met James E. Adams there, and they were married in 1964. They then spent eight years in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, where Jim was Executive Director of the Mt. Vernon YMCA. In 1973, the family moved to St. Louis, Missouri to own and operate Windjammer Travel Service. During her career in the travel industry, she was able to visit 86 countries all over the world. Upon retirement in 2000, Claire and Jim returned to Claire's childhood home in Vestavia Hills, Alabama. They were avid University of Alabama football fans.
Claire is survived by her husband James E. Adams for 58 years, her sons, Keith Andrew Adams( two daughters Bryn and Harper) and David Rush Adams ( wife Lynne and her two children) both of St. Louis. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack Andrew Roberts and Claire Drinkard Roberts, and also by Keith's wife Maureen Wilson Adams. The family would like to thank Dr. Katie Khoury and the staff at the Oncology Department on the 5th floor of the Kirkland Clinic for the genuine kindness and care they provided.
A private family graveside burial service will conducted at Elmwood Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to Oncology Research Foundation at U.A.B. or your favorite charity.
