Curtis Anderson Terry, affectionately known as “Curt,” of Mountain Brook, Alabama died on March 24, 2026 after 39 precious and joyful days full of life. Diagnosed prenatally with Trisomy 18, God answered many prayers over Curt’s life as he was born, defying all odds, alive and thriving on February 13, 2026. He spent all 39 days of his life in the NICU at Brookwood Baptist Medical Center, charming his parents and medical team with his big blue eyes, head full of dark untamable hair, and sweet yet occasionally feisty demeanor. Curt made many friends, enjoyed head rubs, loved to lay on his right side or face-planted, and often kept one “popeye” open to make sure he didn’t miss anything. The fighting spirit God instilled in Curt allowed him to reach and exceed almost all of the goals his parents and medical team set for him. In the Lord’s perfect timing, Curt was called to his eternal home on the day his parents planned to take him home.
God used Curt’s short but purposeful earthly life to display His sovereignty—that He does not make mistakes. Curt was fearfully and wonderfully made in God’s image from the womb. Though affected by a disease often described as “incompatible with life,” Curt showed that life is not defined by length, ease, or accomplishment but through glorifying God and enjoying Him forever.
Curt is survived by his parents, Charles Roden Terry III and Shea Summerlin Terry; his big brother, Charles Roden Terry IV (“Den”); paternal grandparents, Charles and Helen Poole Terry; maternal grandparents, Jimmy and Sandra Sasser Smith; and numerous other family members. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Curtis Larry Summerlin; paternal great-grandparents, Charles and Katherine “Katy” Anderson Terry, and Harry and Mary Agnes “Mae” Hall Poole; and maternal great-grandparents, Waverly and Louise Poole Summerlin, and William Darrell and Shelby Moore Sasser.
Curt’s family would like to thank the many members of his medical team at Brookwood Baptist Medical Center including the NICU, OB-GYN South, and Maternal-Fetal Medicine. Most of all, Charles and Shea would like to thank the innumerable family, friends, and worldwide members of the body of Christ who have prayed for them throughout Curt’s pregnancy, life, and death.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 4th, 2026, at Briarwood Presbyterian Church, 2200 Briarwood Way, with Reverend Jim Alexander officiating, directed by Ridout’s Valley Chapel. The family will receive friends at a visitation from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church before the service.
