Donald Roy Fisher

Don was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on December 8, 1927. He was graduated from Tuscaloosa High School and attended the University of Alabama where he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity and began a life time love of Alabama football.

After moving to Birmingham in 1957, he began a career with Stringfellow Lumber Company where he became President and Chief Executive Officer until his retirement in 2012. During his career with Stringfellow Lumber, he was also a proud member of the Board of Directors of Jemison Investments. He was a dedicated member of the Birmingham Rotary Club which he enjoyed very much as well as a member of the Newcomen Society of the United States. Don was a member of Canterbury United Methodist Church where he served on the Church Council.

Don was a kind, honorable man who treated all those he interacted with respectfully. He was a true southern gentleman who always conducted himself with thoughtfulness and integrity. He found everyday an opportunity to grow and serve others, making him an inspiration to us all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold C. Fisher and Josie Clunan Martin, his sister, Helen Fisher Davis, and his wife, Dena Mackereth Fisher.

Devotion to his family was a constant throughout his life and he will be greatly missed but continue to inspire us all. He is survived by his wife Sue Eskridge Fisher, his children, Donna Fisher Fletcher, Kathryn Fisher Harwell, and William Harold Fisher and his wife Mary Reid Fisher, his grandchildren Mary Kathryn Fletcher Glisson, Harold William Donald Fletcher, Fisher Owen Harwell, Mackereth Reed Harwell, Reid Derrick Fisher, and Alice Dearing Fisher, his brother, Harold C. Fisher, and sister, Mary Jo Fisher Morton.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 28th, at Canterbury United Methodist Church at 2:00 pm with visitation in the church parlor from 12:30 pm until 2:00.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Canterbury United Methodist Project Brown Bag or your favorite charity.
