

Dorothy Jane Ellard "Dot" Aycock of Homewood, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 7th. She was a loving mother of two sons, six grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren (with one more on the way).
She was a dedicated leader in her church, Trinity United Methodist, and her community of Homewood. She loved her church, raised her sons in the faith, and was especially blessed by her participation in the UMW and the Friendship Sunday School class. She enjoyed playing bridge, ballroom dancing, a cup of coffee, anything chocolate, and going to Piggly Wiggly. She was deeply committed to her family, both immediate and extended. She enjoyed children and was known by many people by her “grandmother name” of Momma Dot. She loved her neighborhood and enjoyed sitting in her yard and visiting with anyone who would pass by. A native of Mississippi, Dot graduated from MSCW (now MUW) in Columbus, Mississippi, and maintained a love for and loyalty to her Mississippi roots and family. She enjoyed sports, and was a committed Mississippi State Bulldogs fan.
Dot was preceded in death by her mother, Kitty Claire Ellard and father John Allen Ellard; her husband, James; her twin brother, Bob Ellard of Clarksdale, MS; her sister, Mae Catherine Pearsall of Charlotte, NC; and her brother, John Allen Ellard of Pittsboro, MS. She is survived by two sons, Frank Allen, of Boone, NC, and James Robert, of Hoover, and daughters-in-law, Gail Woods Aycock and Ann Gurley Aycock; her grandchildren Nathan (Jessica), Joel (Maite), Sarah (Chandler), Bethany (Jereme), Allen (Katie), Wes (Andrea), 13 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services for Dot will be Monday, December 12th at Trinity United Methodist Church in Homewood, 11:00 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will immediately follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Arrangements are through Ridout’s Valley Chapel Funeral Home (205-879-3401) in Homewood.
