

Dorothy Nell Meadows Clayton of Birmingham, Alabama passed away at home after an extended illness on Sunday October 5, 2014. She was born March 6, 1921 to the late Minnie Pannell Meadows and Early Moses Meadows. She grew up in the Woodlawn area of Birmingham and graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1939. She attended the University of Alabama and graduated in 1943 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. She used her chemistry skills to become a Registered Medical and Pathology Technician.
Dorothy worked in the University of Alabama Medical School as a research technician. She was a pharmacist at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama, and a General Lab Technician at Columbus Hospital in Chicago, as well as South Highlands Infirmary and St. Vincent's in Birmingham.
She enjoyed the restoration and study of antique furniture and decorative arts. She owned antique dealerships at Cobb Lane in Birmingham: the Carriage House Antiques and Twentieth Street Antiques until 1995.
Dot's love of travel took her and husband Wool to many locations around the world; Europe, Asia, and Russia especially.
She was a long time member of Mountain Brook Baptist Church and Agape Sunday School class. Over the years she was active in numerous professional, civic and neighbourhood organizations.
She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years Orville Woolford Clayton of Ft. Payne, Alabama, her three children : son Stephen W. Clayton of New Orleans, LA daughters Kathy Lee Clayton, Shelley Clayton and her husband Brad Hrbek of Birmingham, one grandson Doug Stockham, Jr. of West Palm Beach, FL An was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Mt. Brook Baptist Church in Hudson Hall from 10:00 am until 11:30 am. Family graveside service will follow at 2:00 pm in Ft. Payne, Alabama at Glenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations in Dot's name be made to Mt. Brook Baptist Church or the Birmingham Humane Society.Arrangements under the direction of Ridout's Valley Chapel, Homewood, AL.
