

Dr. Moody was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on November 6, 1914, the son of Washington Moody and Ira Bradfield Moody. An excellent student, he completed his undergraduate education at the University of Alabama, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta and ODK. He went on to receive his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in 1940. A captain in the U. S. Army during World War II, he was deployed to Nassau, Bahamas, where he played golf with the Governor of the Bahamas, Edward VIII, the abdicated King of England. In 1943 while in Nassau, he was introduced to the love of his life, June Mathews of Sylacauga, Alabama. After a whirlwind courtship, which included a garden party at the home of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, they were married in Nassau.
Stationed in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Frank and June welcomed their first born, Elizabeth Shortridge Moody. Later, returning to Birmingham to join Dr. Gilbert Fisher in his otolargyngology practice, they had their second child, Louise Gilmer Moody.
Dr. Moody was Associate Professor and Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Alabama School of Medicine from 1953-1962. With the Junior League of Birmingham, he helped found the Hearing and Speech Clinic of UAB Hospital. He was a member of the Triologic Society and the medical staff of St. Vincent’s Hospital.
Dr. Moody’s life in Birmingham revolved around friends and golf at the Birmingham Country Club, serving as an elder at Independent Presbyterian Church, and many hobbies, including bird watching, genealogy expeditions, and photography. He and June expanded their world by numerous travels to other countries.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, June Moody, and his daughter, Louise Moody of Bethesda, MD, as well as seven grandchildren: Carsten Pedersen and Laura Blacksin of Seattle, Washington; Elliot Moody Hannon of New Delhi, India; Burwell Lewis Hannon of Washington, D.C.; Julia Watt Detchon of Chicago, Illinois; Charlotte Sims Detchon and Deborah Rose Detchon of Bethesda, Maryland.
A private burial will held at Elmwood Cemetery on Wednesday, December 21, 2011, followed by an 11:00 memorial service at Independent Presbyterian Church.
