Gay Shank passed away on January 23, 2020. She was born on September 5, 1934 in Birmingham to Wayne Acton and Elva Baker. She was a graduate of Shades Valley High School where she met and married Charles Arnett, her husband of 26 years until his passing in1977. Gay was a member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church for more than 60 years. She enjoyed reading and needlepointing. Gay was preceded in death by her son Norman Arnett and sister Jo Parmley. She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Paul Shank; sons Alan Arnett (Beth) and Michael Arnett (Michelle); daughter in law, Jo Arnett, and grandson Jay Arnett (Mindy). She is also survived by stepchildren Pamela Allums (Mike), Paula Foster and Randy Shank (Barbara). Grandchildren Mallory Allums, Carter Allums, Apryl Brooms (Jeremy), Ashley Foster, Christy Foster, Stephanie Schaefer and Angela Shank.
Visitation and service will be at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood on Tuesday, January 28, 2020. Visitation at 11:00am. Service at 12:00 noon. Pastor Bill Johnston officiating. Following the service a private burial will be held at Acton Memorial Cemetery.
