Elizabeth Alexander “Bess Owen” Yeilding, age 94, of Mountain Brook, Alabama, died on September 10, 2016 after a full and active life.
Born in Memphis, TN, Bess Owen moved to Birmingham as a child and graduated from Ramsay High School and Converse College. She was an active member of South Highland Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the Builders' Class, Flower Guild, and Presbyterian Women. Other activities included Argus Club, Myosotis Garden Club, John Parke Custis DAR, and various tennis groups and bridge clubs throughout the years.
Mrs. Yeilding was pre-deceased by her husband of 53 years, Henry Boone Yeilding, her parents, Dr. Will and Elizabeth Alexander, and her sister, Cornelia A Dow (Fred). She is survived by her 3 children: Alex Yeilding (Susan), John Yeilding (Mary Margaret), and Elizabeth Ezell (Mark). She is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Brian Yeilding (Heather), Ruth Brooks (Rob), Laura Ezell, Robert Ezell, and Mary Frances Yeilding, and great grandson, Austin Yeilding.
The Memorial Service will be held at South Highland Presbyterian Church on Monday, September 19 at 3pm, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the South Highland Presbyterian Foundation or a favorite charity
