Elizabeth "Betsy" Duke Custer

Elizabeth "Betsy" Duke Custer of Center Point, passed away on Wednesday, the 20th of September 2023. She was 85 years of age. Born in Alabama on July 26, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Bill and Louise Duke.

Betsy was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Custer; her brothers, David Duke and Bill Duke, Jr. (Edine); her sisters, Kay Wisener (Frank) and Evelyn Kirsch (Clem who survives her).

She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Custred (Mike); by her son, Rod Custer; sister, Mary Wegener (Henry preceded her); brother, Taylor Duke (Nellie); her 5 grandchildren, Shawn Custred (Carissa), Taylor Hightower (Hunter), Matthew Custred, William Custer, and Alex Custer. She is also survived by her 3 great grandsons, Dean Hightower, Connor Custred, and Archer Hightower.

Besty loved her family dearly. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren made her life complete. She had many friends that brought tremendous joy to her. Some were friends from childhood and others she met going back to work at the State Board of Heating and Air Conditioning; then at Bell South beginning in 1986 until her retirement in 2003.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, the 25th of September, at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood with burial immediately following at Acton Memorial Cemetery. Services will begin at two o'clock in the afternoon and will be officiated by Bro. Lee Praytor. Friends are cordially invited to visit with the family one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to Alzheimer's of Central Alabama located at 300 Office Park Drive, Suite 225, Birmingham, Alabama 35223. Services are under the direction of Ridout's Valley Chapel (205-879-3401) in Homewood.
