

NIXON, ELLEN GRACE REESE Of Mountain Brook, died Monday, April 8, 2013 at the age of ninety-six. Born in Nashville, Tennessee, Mrs. Nixon attended Birmingham Southern College, where she was a member of the Tau Delta Chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi. Mrs. Nixon was a member of Mountain Brook Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the General Sumter Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, and also enjoyed longtime memberships in the Twenty Club and the Belle Meade Garden Club. Mrs. Nixon was also a member of the Country Club of Birmingham and a past member of The Club. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, John Thomas Nixon. She was also preceded in death by her beloved sister, Mary Sue Reese Madison, and their brother, Ira Hibbett Reese. Mrs. Nixon is survived by her daughter, Sue Ellen Nixon Fey (Steven) of Keswick, Virginia; her son, John Thomas Nixon, Jr. (Phyllis) of Homewood; four granddaughters: Lee Hibbett Hendricks Unroe (Brian), Alexandra Clemens Fey, Holly Ann Nixon, and Catherine Ellen Nixon Mills; and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Henry Lees Nixon (Jo Ann) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood. Graveside services will be held on Friday, April 12, 2013 at 2:00 pm. at Elmwood Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Ridout's Valley Chapel. Memorials may be made to Kirkwood by the River, Birmingham or Hospice Advantage, Irondale. The family is profoundly grateful to the staff at Kirkwood and Hospice Advantgage for their kindness and care.
