

Elmer H. Etling Jr. lost his fight with cancer on Monday, April 22, 2013. He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years Billie Etling, and his son “Hank” Etling. Elmer is survived by his daughter Claudia Etling, sons George Etling and his wife Cheri, and Darryl Etling and his wife Karen, granddaughters, Alana and Jessica and grandsons, Alex and Drew. Elmer graduated from Oglethorpe in 1949 where he was a Manager/Member of the baseball team, Business Manager for the Stormy Petrol, member of the Blue Key Fraternity and member of the Public Relations Committee. He started his career at Rich’s department store in 1949 and worked in various roles in Atlanta. Elmer moved to Birmingham 1962 to run Plantation Patterns. Elmer was a member of Mountain Brook Presbyterian Church and had special memories of teaching Sunday School and treating his class with donuts every Sunday. The family lived in Mountain Brook for more than 50 years. Elmer moved to Danbury at Inverness in 2010 and developed great friendships with the other residents. Visitation will be 10-10:30 Thursday April 25, 2013, at Ridout’s Valley Chapel Funeral Home in Homewood. Funeral services will follow at 10:30 in the chapel.
