

She was a native Alabama resident living and working in Birmingham all of her adult life.
Elouise was known to all as a loving, generous and attentive relative, friend and colleague. She worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama for 35 years and enjoyed another 35 years in retirement traveling with her husband, Dan, and doting on her nieces and nephews and especially her godchildren, Adam and Katie.
Elouise enjoyed a fulfilled life – watched Alabama football games from the days of Coach Bear Bryant. She loved going to Golden Rule for BBQ with friends, to The Bright Star with Dan, her late husband and a Bessemer resident.. And, last she adored taking Katie to Sneaky Pete’s to enjoy a hot dog! Elouise loved shopping for herself and others and was also a fan of returns! Friends will also remember her love of shoes and great fashion style.
She was married to the late Daniel Ward Houston III who preceded her in death in 2011.Beloved by her extended family of 14 nieces and nephews there were always events to attend and good times to share. Elouise’s legacy lives on today through Adam and Katie’s children. Her great, great niece, Elouise Faith Downs and her great, great nephews, Calloway Houston and Woodson Elman Jame. Elouise will be missed by all who knew her – she was that special sister, aunt and friend everyone wishes they had.
A celebration of Elouise's life will be held at Ridout's Valley Chapel on Sunday, December 29, 2019 from ten o'clock until eleven o'clock in the morning. Graveside services will be at eleven-thirty in the morning at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Elouise Houston may be directed to the Big Oak Ranch, P.O. Box 507, Springville, AL 35146.
