Our beloved Dad, Floyd Ellis Bailey, missed Mom so very much every day and was reunited with her once again on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.
Dad was born on September 2, 1940; the second son to Alfred & Lucille Bailey in Birmingham Alabama. He would eventually have two brothers and one sister.
He grew up in Cahaba Heights, which he fondly referred to as "New Merkel." He loved to share the history of our community, telling us how it began around the Cahaba Pumping Station in 1887, named after the engineer William Merkel. Despite its rough reputation during Prohibition, Cahaba Heights has always held a special place in his heart and was annexed into Vestavia Hills in 2002.
Dad always did things “his way”. He thought he was a know it all and quit school in tenth grade to see what he could do. Growing up Dad was known as “Pretty Boy Floyd.” Later in life he met this pretty young lady named Betty Jean Brown who he eventually married on July 28, 1964. After Dad got married he realized he needed to settle down and quit doing all of these jobs with no future career for upward growth, so he joined a company headquartered in Chicago Illinois known as “Lawson Products, Inc. and spent 50 years working with them.
One of the proudest moments of Dad's life was when he became a Christian and was baptized later in life. His faith and commitment became a cornerstone for him and our Mom.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Betty of 56 years and one brother, Johnny Bailey and his sisters-in-laws: JoAnn Jones, Linda Epperson, and Carolyn Barton.
Dad is survived by his sons Charles Bailey (Robyn) and Scott Bailey (Tara), grandchildren: Lauren Braxton (JT), Emmaleigh Bailey, Anna Bailey, Amanda Bailey, Peyton Bailey, Chris Bailey, Grant Mull, and Lauren Mull, his great grandchilden: Callum Cole, Lydia Bailey and Jones Braxton, his brother Pascall Bailey (Linda) and sister Lavinia Whatley (Tommy) his sister-in-laws: Mary Charles Stoffregen (Allen) and Janice Whitten (Edwin) and brother-in-law: Larry Epperson.
Friends may visit beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 4, 2025 at Ridout's Valley Chapel, 1800 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, Alabama 35209. The funeral services will follow at 12:00 p.m., with Brother Jacob Davidson officiating. Burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens, located at 1591 Gadsden Highway, Birmingham, Alabama 35235.
Thank you all for your love and support during this time. We look forward to honoring Dad's life and legacy together.
