
Genevieve A. Saletnik Jasnocha, 98, was born October 14, 1913 in Ware, Massachusetts and passed away Sunday, June 24, 2012 at home surrounded by those that loved her. She lived in Vestavia Hills, Alabama, with her daughter and son-in-law after moving from Massachusetts.
Locally, she was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Hoover. She graduated from Ware High School, worked at the Newberry Store as a clerk, at Ware Knitters as an inspector and screen printer, and at Hampshire Woolen Mill. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Ware, a member of St. Mary’s Rosary Sodality, a Gold Star Mother, was honored with the Knights of Columbus Family of the Year Award in Massachusetts and loved God, family, friends, travel, nature, faith, and Church, living a life of service to her beloved husband, children, family and church.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Alfred, with whom she enjoyed 68 years of a happy marriage prior to his death in 2001. She was also predeceased by 2 children, Joyce and Alfred Jr. and 2 sons-in-law, Emedio Maloni and Bruce Velon.
She leaves and will be sorely missed by 12 loving daughters and their husbands: Blandine (Robert Hogan), Gloria (Stanley Skowyra), Regina (John Janosz), Genevieve (Charles Bates), Linda (Michael Bass), Teresa (Robert Gibowicz), Donna (James Boyko), Brenda (Raymond Wrona), Dianne (Ed Silveira), Bonita (Robert Thompson), Alicia (David Cakley), and Deborah (Guy Barg). She also leaves 43 grandchildren, over 75 great-grandchildren, great—great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews: Barbara (George Surprenant), Dotti (Bill Bish), John (Dee) jasnocha, Michael (Karen) Saletnik, Claudia Ambrose, Dolores, Ted Garwacka, Janet, Chris, and Philip Bednarz, John (Susan ) Saletnik, Sandi (Lenny) Dukette, Carolyn (Tom) Gernux, and all the Nicoll family, the Perri family, a cousin Helen Saletnik, dear friends Kathi Cosgrove Disch, Dr. Richard McGlaughlin, the Lutomski family, and neighbors at The Falls in Vestavia.
She was thankful for the many hospital and home visits from Fr. Henry McDaid and Sr. Margaret Mary Liang, Dr. Anthony Turkiewicz, the care of Dr. Craig Rich and his staff, and the many prayers of friends and parishioners at Prince of Peach Church.
Calling hours and funeral arrangements will be at Cebula Funeral Home and St. Mary’s Church in Ware, Massachusetts with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Donations may be made in Genevieve’s name, locally to Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Hoover or to St. Mary’s Church in Ware, Massachusetts.
A memorial mass will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church at a time to be determined.
