GEORGE T. NORTON, JR., age 72 of Vestavia Hills passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 22, 2014. He was born on June 28, 1942 in New York City. He and his wife Petra, enjoyed 46 wonderful years of marriage. George dedicated his life to his country and family. He served in the Army active duty for 3 years, reserves for 20+ years and retired as a Lt. Colonel. He worked for the U.S. Dept. of Commerce for 35+ years. George earned his Bachelors degree from Syracuse University and his Graduate degree from Thunderbird School of Global Business. He is survived by his wife Petra; sons, Marc and Terence, one daughter-in-law Melissa and one granddaughter Molly. George was the oldest of four brothers, Bill, John, and Doug who also survived him . A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Sept. 27 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church, with visitation and a reception following. The family has requested that instead of flowers, memorials be made in his name to the American Parkinson’s Disease Association www.apdaparkinson.org
