Glenn Alan Feldman, resident of Homewood, AL, died unexpectedly on October 19 at the age of 53 from a massive heart attack. Born on May 30, 1962, Glenn was many things to many people: author, professor, talented orator, fighter for the little guy, comedian, practical jokester, story teller. However, none of these things mattered to him as much as his role of husband to Jeannie and dad to Hallie and Rebecca. The most important thing in his life was to love and take care of his girls, which he did magnificently.
Glenn was a noted Alabama civil rights historian and author, and published eleven critically acclaimed books on the subjects of race, violence, and politics in the Deep South. One of the greatest gifts he gave was dedicating his work and those books to people he dearly loved. Glenn was passionate about learning, and held five degrees from three different schools in four subjects, including a Ph.D. in History from Auburn University.
Glenn is survived by the love of his life, wife Jeannie Reed Feldman; daughters Hallie Elizabeth and Rebecca Margaret; mother, Julia Garate Burgos Feldman and father, Brian Feldman; brothers Danny (Mur Averyt) and Richard; sister Vicky, and cousin Ronnie; nieces and nephews Dani, Christian, Brian, Julianna, Veronica and Lainey. He was preceded in death by his sister-in-law Gloria, wife of Richard.
The funeral service for Glenn will be at All Saints Episcopal Church at noon on Friday, Oct. 23. Visitation will be from 11-noon in the Great Hall. Nursery will be available for ages 6 weeks-6 years. Graveside will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens (2701 John Hawkins Parkway, Hoover, AL 35244-4004).
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Alabama Episcopal Cursillo (www.cursilloalabama.org) or to Catechesis of the Good Shepherd at All Saints (www.allsaintsbirmingham.org).
