

Gloria Madden Sherrill passed away on October 28th, 2018 at the age of 91. She was born on December 25th 1926 in Birmingham, Alabama. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph and Magdelyn Madden. She had 2 siblings who preceded her in death: Mr. Joseph Madden and Mrs. Jeanie Naramore. She graduated from Ramsey High School and later attended Centenary University in New Jersey. She was married to the late Dr. John D. Sherrill, Jr. and they remained together for 57 years until his death in 2005.
She is survived by eight children; Dr. John Doke Sherrill, III, Dr Joseph Madden Sherrill (Sallie), Ms. Ann Sherrill Jemison, Ms. Magdelyn Bea Sherrill Hardy, Ms. Mary Sherrill Trawick, Dr. Emily Sherrill Riser (John), Mr. David Patrick Sherrill, and Ms Katherine Sherrill Grainger. Gloria is also survived by her too numerous too count grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was a devoted homemaker and family matriarch who enjoyed her family, her friends, her faith, and last but not least Alabama Football. She was a member of Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Mountain Brook Club, The Birmingham Country Club, and the Tuesday Bridge Club. Gloria lived a long and wonderful life and her legacy will endure.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Harold Simon and the staff at Kirkwood by the River for their excellent and compassionate care, especially Ms. Regina Ward.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at Saint Francis Xavier Church on Wednesday, October 31st at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. with a graveside service following at Elmwood Cemetery. Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood presiding.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Benedictine Sisters, Sacred Heart Monastery, Cullman, Alabama.
