

Henry Goldthwaite Seibels, Jr, 95, died October 15th 2015 at home. Born on August 28th 1920 to Henry G. and Esther Kelly Seibels in Birmingham, Alabama, he is survived by his wife of 68 years Frances Estes Seibels; his children Henry G. Seibels, III (Donna); Katherine S Seibels; Edmund K Seibels (Beth) and Frances S Little( Norris); ten grandchildren and fifteen (15) great grandchildren. Mr. Seibels attended local schools as well as Gilman, and Princeton. Upon graduation from Princeton, he joined the United States Navy as an aviator later transferring to the Marine Corps where he served in the Pacific Theatre and China. He returned to Birmingham and joined Jemison-Seibels Insurance Agency, which through a series of mergers, became McGriff, Seibels and Williams. The company principals, Lee McGriff, Tut Williams, and Mr. Seibels, were grade school friends.
Active in the civic and charitable life of Birmingham, Henry was a member of The Kiwanis Club, the United Way campaign, The Nature Conservancy, and the American Red Cross. A lifelong Episcopalian he served on the Vestry and as Senior Warden of the Cathedral Church of the Advent. Socially, he was a member and President of the Mountain Brook Club, The Redstone Club, and a loyal Princeton alumnus attending yearly reunions. His robust love of the great outdoors found him at the Duffy’s Bend Hunting Club of which he was a founder, fishing trips in the Gulf, playing golf often, and many summers on Ahmic Lake in Ontario on fishing and canoe trips.
Buzz, as he was called, was noted for his adventurous spirit, his joy in living, his quick but gentle wit and his service to others. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Henry Seibels was a gentleman who lived a life of joy and integrity, and he will be missed by all of those who knew and loved him.

A memorial service will be held at the Cathedral Church of the Advent at eleven o’clock on Monday, October 19th. The family will receive friends and relatives in Clingman Commons following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cathedral Church of the Advent, St George’s Anglican Church, Magnetawan, Ontario, or a favorite charity.
