

GEER, JACK CHARLES, M.D. Born in Galesburg, Illinois on September 19, 1927 and passed away on June 6, 2010. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Kathleen Williamson Geer and his brother, Gerald Geer. Following High School he served in the U.S. Navy then graduated from Louisiana State University and Louisiana State University School of Medicine where he was later awarded Distinguished Alumnus. He served as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Pathology at The Ohio State University School of Medicine. In 1975, he moved to Birmingham to become Professor and Chairman of Pathology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he retired after fourteen years as Professor Emeritus. He was an active member of the UAB New Horizons Lecture Series as well as an ardent supporter of the Birmingham Museum of Art, where he volunteered as a docent. He is survived by his children, Charles Geer of Birmingham, Dr. Richard (Tina) Geer of Nashville, TN, John (Adelaide) Geer of Nashville, TN, Cindy Roesel of Houston, TX, and Dr. Michael (Melanie) Geer of Birmingham along with his ten grandchildren; Katherine, Christopher, Elizabeth, Kathleen, Alene, and Oliver Geer of Nashville, Emily and Cloe Roesel of Houston, and Jack and Mallie Geer of Birmingham. The family will hold a visitation on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at Ridout's Valley Chapel, 1800 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, AL 35209, from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Birmingham Museum of Art or a charity of one's choice.
