Jack Daniel Nix, age 87, of Hoover, Alabama departed this life on Tuesday, May 7, 2024. Jack grew up in the Woodlawn community. He attended Gibson Grammer school, Woodlawn High School, and Auburn University. throughout his life, he remained close to his family and friends he was blessed with throughout his years.
Jack was a true Auburn man. He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He cherished the lunches and reunions he had with his friends throughout the years. Jack was awarded the 2021 Auburn Business Entrepreneur of the year and was a donor of a classroom at the new Harbert Business School in memory of his granddaughter, Magen Nix.
After graduating from Auburn, Jack went to work for Alabama Power Company. After many years, he made the decision to go another route in his life. Jack was a self-made entrepreneur. He started his new venture in real estate, creating Nix Realty. One of his ventures led to him owning the Mouse Trap Lounge in Huffman, AL and Panama City Beach, FL. He was the owner of Riverchase Antique Gallery and multiple antique malls around the country. He continued in his real estate ventures in Destin, Fl, Lake Tahoe, CA and Atlanta, GA. He was the owner of Express Oil in Fort Walton Beach and Crestview FL. His monumental venture was building Hoover Self Storage. He was a member of the Birmingham Ski Club. In the small mining town of Edgewater, he was a supporter of Edgewater Methodist Church, where his mother grew up.
His first love was God, then his family and his happiest days were being with them. Jack is survived by sons: Jack Nix, Jr. of Denver, CO and William Nix of Shelby County, AL, sisters: Sylvia Nix Tullos of Madison, MS, and Nita Nix Yarbrough (Russell) of Hoover, AL , the mother of his sons Patricia Roberts Nix, several nieces and nephews. He is also very proud of his four wonderful granddaughters, Magen, Briana, Riley and Reagan and his three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Evelyn Nix, granddaughter, Magen Nix and niece Rhonda Self.
The family would like to thank Dr. Juan Bernal, Dr. James Strong, Monarch Grove Retirement Community, Pathlight Senior Care, Charity with Oasis Hospice and expecially Tia and Jackie for their great care of him in his final days.
A funeral service for Jack will be held Monday, May 13, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Ridout's Vallety Chapel in Homewood.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Jack may be made to Edgewater Methodist Church, 700 Cedarbrook Circle, Birmingham, AL 35214 or Brother Bryan Missions, 1616 2nd Ave. No, Birmingham, AL 35203.
