
Jim was a star baseball player at Brookline High School and the American Legion Baseball League. He graduated from Northeastern University June 1956 with BS in Marketing. He held sales positions in Union Carbide Industrial Gases in several states before becoming Manager, Gas Products, in Chicago 1977. He then served as Region Marketing Manager in 1983 and in 1986 was named Region Sales Director for the Southern Region with offices in Birmingham and Houston. He retired in June 30, 1996, after 39 years with the Linde Division of Union Carbide. Jean and Jim loved all sports and traveling - including 26 cruises.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Jean; his son James F. Archibald, III and his grandsons: Tom and his wife, Sutherland, and Ben and his wife, McKinley. Also survived by brothers John (Carol) and Bill (Eileen) and sister Martha Cotton (Matt) and by numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Southminster Presbyterian Church located at 1124 Montgomery Hwy, Vestavia Hills, AL 35216, on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at 11:00 am with visitation following the service.
