

Mr. Donaldson was born in Birmingham, Alabama on the 11th of December 1932 to James Hood Donaldson, Sr. and Jane Slaughter Donaldson. At the age of 4, Jesse moved to Homewood with his parents where he would live and remain a resident of Homewood for 84 years. He was a graduate of Shades Valley High School and was drafted into the United States Army where he served his country during the Korean Conflict. Jesse started his working career as a food broker with Motts Food Service and worked at other places including Sears and Alabama Label. After his retirement from the printing industry, Jesse loved serving others by making deliveries for Homewood Pharmacy. He was a 50 year member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Homewood and a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Barbara Lewis Donaldson; daughter, Diane Donaldson Azbik (Fred); son, Jimmy H. Donaldson, III; and known as "Gran" to his four grandchildren, Samantha Azbik, Nathan Azbik, Tommy Donaldson, and Tyler Donaldson. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends are cordially invited to graveside services being held on Friday, the 5th of February 2021. Military honors at the Alabama National Cemetery will commence at eleven o'clock in the morning and burial will immediately follow. Alabama National Cemetery is located at 3133 Highway 119 in Montevallo, Alabama 35115 and honors veterans who have faithfully served our country.
In lieu of usual remembrances, memorials honoring the life of Jesse Donaldson may be directed to Trinity United Methodist Church's Building Fund located at 1400 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, Alabama 35209. Funeral services are under the care and direction of Ridout's Valley Chapel (205.879.3401) in Homewood.
