

James Warren Heacock, Jr. of Mountain Brook, Alabama died on May 22, 1924 after a valiant battle with laryngeal cancer and pulmonary fibrosis. He is predeceased by his parents, James Warren Heacock and Rebecca Turbeville Heacock and his twin sister, Rebecca Heacock James. Jim was born on July 23, 1946, in Talladega, Alabama. After attending Talladega city schools, he graduated from The Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1964. He attended Auburn University where he earned a degree in Industrial Engineering and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
In 1968, Jim married his high school sweetheart, Harriet Poe Christenberry. They spent the first years of their marriage in Germany as Jim was a Captain in the US Army. He served as Company Commander of the 182nd Light Equipment Maintenance Company. Upon returning to the United States, Jim worked in his family business as President of Talladega Castings and Machine Co. for forty years. In Talladega, Jim contributed to his community by serving on the Planning and Zoning, the Industrial and the Chamber of Commerce boards. He also served on the vestry of St. Peter’s Episcopal church. Being in the foundry business, he was a member of the Steel Founders Society of America and served on their national board. In 2008, Jim and Harriet relocated to Mountain Brook, Alabama where he was a member of The Club, the Mountain Brook Club and St. Mary’s on the Highlands Episcopal Church.
Jim was a devoted member of the Birmingham recovery community. With 33 years of sobriety, Jim’s investment to AA enabled him to help countless others in their path of recovery. He is remembered for his wisdom and humor and will be deeply missed. Some of Jim’s special pleasures were riding and building go karts with his grandsons, shooting and watching fireworks, reading and traveling near and far with friends and family.
Jim is survived by his wife, Harriet, son James (Jay)Warren Heacock, III, daughter, Harriet Harrison Vogelsang (Matt) and his three grandchildren Charlie, Hallie, and Dewey Vogelsang. Jim is also survived by his sisters Carol Sullivan (Carroll) and Heidi Yates (Sam), his brother Gary Heacock (Kathy) and his brother-in-law, Alton James, two sisters-in-law Fran Christenberry(Chip)and Cathy Warner(Tom) along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at 3PM at St. Mary’s-on-the- Highlands Episcopal Church, preceded by a visitation at 2PM.
