

FLEMING, BRIGA JANE LAWSON Briga Jane Lawson Fleming, age 83, passed away April 11, 2012 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Ms. Fleming was preceded in death by her husband, Roscoe Owen Fleming and her parents, Eva Jane Alford and Driskoll Obediah Lawson; survived by her sisters, Edna Hughes and Rue Dougherty. Ms. Fleming retired after a lengthy career from the Social Security Administration. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and active with the Friendship Sunday School Class whose members she loved so dearly. She was an exceptional cook and loved to entertain. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed sewing beautiful christening gowns for the children of family and friends. She founded the Baby Love ministry through the Trinity church, which made and delivered clothes for families with premature and newborn babies. She was also a member of Trinity's Outreach Missions Team, as a representative of the Baby Love ministry. Ms. Fleming was once honored with a request by Bishop Willimon to make the banner for the Ordination Service for Ministers in the North Alabama Conference. Ms. Fleming was happily married for 35 years to Roscoe Owen Fleming. They enjoyed a happy life together and loved their extended family. She is also survived by three nieces, Karen R. Drinnon, Rebecca J. Pickens (David), and Virginia F. Anthony (Richard), and two nephews Dr. Norwood J. Fleming (Lucy) and Horace S. Fleming (Rebecca); as well as eight great-nephews and nieces; and eight great-great-nephews and nieces. The funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Trinity United Methodist Church, with Dr. Andrew Wolfe officiating. A private family burial will be held in Montgomery, Alabama after the service. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 1400 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, Alabama 35209.
