

.Jean Wingfield Harris Doty, a lifelong resident of Birmingham, died April 22, 2016. The daughter of Josephine Aldrich Harris and Dr. Farley Wingfield Harris, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Luther Lee Doty, Jr., and by her sister Josephine Aldrich Harris Wasson. Her life was dedicated to declaring and living the good news of the Gospel so that others would know her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. An early student of the new Mountain Brook Elementary, she later attended Stratford College in Virginia and Birmingham Southern College, majoring in music. This love of music and the arts impacted many lives, as she taught piano lessons in her home for years. She was a member of the Mountain Brook Music and Art Club and the Old Elyton Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She and Lu were among the first members of Briarwood Presbyterian Church where they both sang in the choir for 30 years. She also served on various committees and taught Bible Club for young boys. She is survived by her two nieces, Jean Lindsay Cook and Garland Cook Smith and her husband Lathrop Winchester Smith Jr., grandnephew, Lathrop Winchester Smith, III and his wife Brannon Snodgrass Smith, along with their children Dorothy Ann and Lathrop Winchester Smith IV; grandniece Lindsay Smith Puckett and her husband Jason Carlisle Puckett. She is also survived by her nephew, Mark McConnico Doty and wife Nancy Riggs Doty, and niece Virginia Burchett Doty; grandniece, Mary Catherine Doty and her husband Michael McElroy, and their daughter Flynn Lawless Doty McElroy; and grandnephew Steven Craige Doty. The family is grateful for the loyalty, love and care of Jackie Hill, Petula McDonald and Frank Williams. A service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, April 25, 2016 in the chapel at Briarwood Presbyterian Church. Visitation will precede the service at 10:00 AM.
