

Born in Anniston, Alabama on June 10, 1947, he was the son of the late Robert and Helen Norris. Jim graduated from Bessemer High School in 1967 and joined the United States Army, serving two tours in Vietnam. A Homewood Firefighter, Jim served the residents of Homewood for 33 years and 9 months before retiring as a Lieutenant in 2005. A member and deacon of Raleigh Avenue Baptist Church, he also served others for 41 years in his second job, working at Industrial Fire & Safety Equipment.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert William Norris.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Jean W. Norris; by his daughter, Teri Norris; by his son, David A. Norris; by his grandson, Anthony T. Savage (Corinne); and by his brother, John Norris (Kathy).
The family will receive friends on Monday, the 12th of February, from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood. Funeral services for Jim will be held on Tuesday, the 13th of February, beginning at one o’clock in the afternoon at Raleigh Avenue Baptist Church. The committal service will immediately follow, via escorted cortege, at Elmwood Cemetery and Mausoleum.
In lieu of usual remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorials honoring Jim’s life be directed to Raleigh Avenue Baptist Church located at 309 Raleigh Avenue, Homewood, Alabama 35209.
Services are under the direction of Ridout’s Valley Chapel (205-879-3401) in Homewood.
