John Charles Bailey

John Charles ( Charlie) Bailey ,85 of Springville, AL passed away March 12, 2026. Charlie was born December 17th 1940 in Birmingham, Alabama. The first child of Samuel Acton Bailey and Clara Elizabeth Russell. He graduated High School at Shades Valley High School and graduated Auburn University with a BS in Business Administration.

Charlie joined the United States Army and Army Reserve as an enlisted man and later received his commission. He was Honorably discharged at a level of Captain. He married Jan Harris in May of 1964 at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church. Married for close to 25 years before divorcing. They had one child John C. Bailey Jr. who is married to Laura Thagard Bailey. Charlie has four grandchildren, Libby Stockton (Grant), Clara Kate Brodock (Aaron), Maggie Bailey and Britton Bailey.

During his career, he was a safety engineer, salesman, in charge of personnel, safety and plant security, purchasing, and storeroom management as well as a job superintendent. Later self-employed doing general repairs and HVAC work. Lastly, he drove a school bus for Jefferson County for his health insurance.

Charlie was passionate about music. Playing Guitar, banjo, bass, and mandolin. He was a part-time musician playing in various places for many years. Also, he played in the Springville Methodist Church in the Bluegrass Band for around 18 years.

Preceding him in death are both parents and his brother Sam Bailey. Surviving him is his son, and four grandchildren and their spouses mentioned above.

Services will be held on Tuesday, March 17th at Springville Methodist Church. Visitation at 10:30 with a memorial to follow at 11:00. Interment will be at Acton Memorial Cemetery at 2:00 PM weather-permitting.
