Joyce Doner Markle

Joyce D. Markle, 81, of Hoover passed away March 9, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Dr. Richard (Dick) Markle, her parents Ralph and Jo Doner. She leaves her memory to be cherished by her 3 children Pam (Andy) Inge, Paige (Randy) Hebson and Ric(Chris) Markle; Grandchildren Brandon Linn, Adam (Jennifer) Linn, Sara Inge, Steve (Carrie) Inge, Pete Inge, Drew (Susan) Hebson, Lesley Hebson, Ryan Norman, Jarrod Norman; great grandchildren Vaiden Inge, Samuel Hebson special friend Barbara Johnson and a host of other family and friends.

Joyce was adopted as an infant in Montgomery County, Alabama and was raised in Auburn. She attended Auburn High School and was voted Miss Auburn. After attending Auburn University for 2 years, she married Richard Markle in 1950. They eventually moved to Birmingham where Dick started a retail drug business. She served as Secretary, Treasurer of Greene-Mar Drug Inc. from 1968 - 1982, Vice President of Markle Discount Drugs from 1982-1989 and secretary/treasurer of Markle Home Healthcare Inc. from 1989 -1993. She and Dick were 1 of 2 founding partners of Markle-Reed Properties. She was a member of Chapel in the Pines Presbyterian Church and participated in the Women's Circle. Her other civic duties were vast, including volunteering her time for the Green Valley Country Club Swim Team and serving in the Pharmaceutical Ladies Auxiliary. In reality, she loved to shop and she was good at it.

Visitation for Mrs. Markle will be Tuesday, March 12,2013 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Ridout's Valley Chapel. The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM at Valley Chapel with burial to follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
