J. Ross Snyder Brown, loving son, brother and uncle, passed away on November 11, 2023 at the age of 51. He was born February 18, 1972 to William Snyder Brown and Jere Moore Brown in Birmingham, AL. He graduated from Mountain Brook High School and received a B.S. in Business from Samford University. He was a member of Independent Presbyterian Church.
Growing up, Ross excelled in sports, had many friends and enjoyed life. His life took a sudden turn in his teens and most of his life wasn’t easy. A car accident took his physical mobility and damaged his brain. Yet, he never forgot a birthday. He always wanted to know about you and your children. He had a quick and unexpected wit that would leave you crying in laughter. And he worked tirelessly to gain back the strong body he once had, even though it was not possible due to the severity of the accident. Ross’ motto was “Be the best you can be with what you’ve got.”
He used his story to make a difference in the lives of others. Ross was the Alabama Representative for Head Injury for several years. During that time, he visited schools and shared his story with hundreds of children from age five to 18. He wanted them to remember his words, “Use good judgement when driving and be alert at all times. You don’t want to make a bad decision that could ruin your life. Just be the best you can be always.” He did more than he ever really understood and touched many lives. His own nieces and nephews can attest.
Ross will be remembered for his laughter and his love of family. He is now free of his physical and mental pain as he joins our Heavenly Father and his biological father. He will be dearly missed.
Ross is survived by his mother, Jere Moore Brown; his uncle, Frank Brown; his brothers, Bill Brown (Christy) and Fletcher Brown (Meredith); his sisters, Jere Brown Nelson and Virginia Brown Sherrell (John); and nieces and nephews, Virginia Nelson; Taylor and William Cross; John Fletcher, Hayes, Maddox and Ann Rollins Brown; Annabelle and Wills Brown; Gibbs, Jud and Ann Haven Sherrell.
He was preceded in death by his father William Snyder Brown, Sr., his paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. LeFay Frank Brown, his maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Albert Fletcher Moore, and his niece Jeannette West Brown.
A graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mountain Brook Police Department or Mountain Brook Fire Department.
