

Juanita Gaither Johnson (July 7, 1928-January 30, 2025) was born in West End Baptist Hospital on the seventh day of the seventh month at seven a.m. and weighed seven pounds. After graduating from Phillips High School, she worked for Southern Bell (later Bell South) for 43 years as a trainer and service representative. Juanita was a member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church, and sang in the Jubilee choir. Previously, she was a member of Central Park Baptist, serving as a Sunday School teacher for many years. Juanita, an avid reader and consummate hostess, enjoyed travelling the world. She was the unofficial leader of her widowed friends and their “Special Group.” She was also a long-time active member of the Appris Women’s club.
Juanita is survived by her daughter, Linda Clarice Johnson of Birmingham and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Clarence Gaither and Henrietta Crumbley Gaither, and her husband, William Arthur Johnson. Juanita will be sorely missed by her family as well as her many friends and neighbors. After a private burial at 10 a.m. in Holly Pond, Alabama, visitation will be at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood on Tuesday, February 4 at 1:00 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Shades Mountain Baptist are welcome.
