Julia T. Harris

Julia T. Harris, age 91, of Vestavia Hills died on March 8, 2010. She was the last of the Thiemonge siblings: Frank, Ernest and Mae Beth. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Dr. Reuben Rhys Harris, in 1994. Julia attended Agnes Scott College and was a 1941 graduate of Birmingham Southern College, magna cum laude. While in college she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and Mortar Board and was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi social sorority. A talented pianist, she graduated from the Birmingham Conservatory of Music in 1939, taught piano for many years and is a past president of the Bush Hills Music Club. She was a member of Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church and sang in the celebration choir. She is survived by four children, Rhys Harris (Jacqueline) of Birmingham, David C. Harris (Donna) of Huntsville, Alison Wedgworth (Mike) of Birmingham and Lailah Glasscock (Jeff) of Birmingham; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral service will be held 11:30 at Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church on Thursday, March 11, 2010. Visitation will be at 10:30 until 11:30 in the church parlor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vestavia United Methodist Church, 2061 Kentucky Avenue, Vestavia Hills, AL 35216.
