Lena Ann Vaccaro Caltagirone

Lena Vaccaro Caltagirone of Vestavia Hills, Alabama passed away at home surrounded by loved ones. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Caltagirone, Sr. She is survived by her children, Rosemarie Chambless, Anne Marie Verchot (Louis), Vincent Caltagirone, Jr. (Mona) and 7 grandchildren. She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church for more than 40 years, where she served as a Minister of Holy Communion; participated in altar sodality and was a faithful adorer in the Chapel of our Savior. Lena and several of her friends felt a strong devotion to the holy rosary. Together they formed Queen of Peace prayer group, meeting each Wednesday for 15 years to pray the rosary. Lena had a servants heart. She lifted her family and friends in prayer daily. To her family, she was a loving mother, a devoted grandmother, a mentor, role model and the world’s greatest cook. The Caltagirone family would like to thank Comfort Care Hospice Nurse Vicki Anderson as well as her sitters, Angela Stuckey, Alvinette (Netta) Bowie, Emma Bluff and Wanda Witherspoon for the loving care they provided. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, July 26, 2016, visitation 9 - 11 am and the funeral mass at 11:00 am, burial at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association. Services are under the direction of Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood.
