He attended Georgia Tech for a year before joining the U.S. Navy during WW II. After the war he attended University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa where he was a member of the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity. He graduated from the School of Business and Commerce
Most of his working life was in the field of Records Management and he had a special interest and expertise in microfilm.
Always active in the community, he was a long-serving officer of the Magic City Toastmasters Club, a past chair of the Vestavia Hills Library Board and longtime member of the American Records Management Association, the National Association of Accounting, Friends of the Vestavia Hills Library and Temple Emanu-El.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Arthur Hagedorn, Jr. and Phil Hagedorn of Atlanta.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jeanne Owen Hagedorn, and by his daughters, Dr. Leah Hagedorn of Norfolk, Virginia and Rebekah Hagedorn of Atlanta, Georgia.
Memorial services will be held at Temple Emanu-El, 2100 Highland Avenue, Birmingham on Friday, July 30, 2021 at 11:00 A.M., with visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M. If attending the Memorial Service at Temple Emanu-El, COVID vaccinations are required and mask are suggested.
Burial will be in New Marseilles Cemetery, West Point, Georgia. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Temple Emanu-El (2100 Highland Ave, Birmingham, AL 35205 )or the Vestavia Hills Library (1221 Montgomery Hwy, Vestavia Hills, AL 35216).
