
Margaret E. Propper, age 67, lost her battle with leukemia on April 15th, 2013. She died peacefully in the presence of her family. She was born on October 1st, 1945 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She graduated from Shades Valley High School and attended the University of Montevallo where she majored in music. In 1965 she married Klaus P. Propper who was stationed with the German Air Force at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville and moved with him to Germany where she acquired a degree as a laboratory technician. Upon her return to the United States, she resided the rest of her life in Birmingham. In 1973, she became a travel agent, an event that would forever change and shape her life. She achieved the highest echelon of awards and respect in the travel industry. She was recognized in her field of expertise beyond the borders of Birmingham, the state of Alabama, and even the United States. Her knowledge was sought after and utilized by clients all over the world. She was named the Conde Nast, as well as the Travel and Leisure specialist for Alaska, river cruises, and small ship cruises for the last 11 years. However, nothing could surpass her beloved Alaska. She travelled there 49 times, from the Bering Sea in the north to the Aleutian Islands in the south, and was renowned for her knowledge and expertise in the area. Last year, she was named the Godmother of the entire fleet of ships belonging to "Un-cruise Adventures" and christened their largest ship, the Safari Endeavour. Her love of travel and desire to see the world was her life's passion.
She is preceded in death by her father Wilfred Siddle and her mother Ruth Siddle. She is survived by her loving husband Klaus Peter Propper, two wonderful children Karsten Propper and Kristina Hersey, her daughter-in-law Sarah Propper, three grandchildren Bobby, Dylan, and Talan, her cousin Gerry Tindle, and numerous relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 18th at 2pm at Mountain Brook Presbyterian Church on Brookwood Road
